The One Number Theory is a self improvement program. It works to modify behavior by providing feedback with simple visuals derived from real data; consider it a tachometer of life's momentum and your likelihood improving it. There are three basic goals it seeks to achieve:
Mathematically, the goal is create a scalable measure of momentum. The One Number Theory achieves this with Theta (Θ). It is calculated by subtracting leveraged negatives from leveraged positives to derive a single, one number representation of momentum. This model properly reflects the "progression amidst struggle" that defines the human condition and provides fuel for the cumulative of value that defines men and generations. Basic math concepts are analogous to the calculation of torque or moment, i.e., as a force times a distance. This is best illustrated by a visual of the Actual Case:
As shown, the One Number Theory fixes the distances along datum to create a system that operates within a -90 > Theta > +90 degree range. Success lies within the first quadrant and exponential increases occur once the limits of that quadrant have been reached by modification of the underlying variables. These modifications are the basis for trending, scenario modeling, and peer evaluation.
Operationally, the goal is to automate data collection from the numerous real time data streams that co-exist with modern life such as transaction records, location, diet, ect. What cannot be measured automatically, including subjective measures of feeling, are derived from daily self assessment and annual evaluations, e.g., from an MD, PhD, DDS, ect. Once the data is captured, it may be represented visually using the One Number Theory. The excel worksheet that produced the Actual Case from above is shown here:
Values for the Actual Case were populated by the author over a 1 month evaluation period (with the traits edited to general terms for this post). Variable definitions are on the right; the rest is simply intensity (force) times priority (distance).
Visually, the goal is to reflect momentum and progress. Theta, as a positive or negative angle within a right triangle, depicts momentum in the aggression of the slope and corresponding area of the triangle. Positive angles point upward for progress and the area get exponentially larger as theta approaches 90. Negative angles properly reflect times when our negatives are winning the day (0 > theta > -90) and have ultimately won the war (theta=-90). Here is an illustration of the Imperfect Case to demonstrate the latter:
The successful businessman person by day and raging alcoholic by night is an excellent example of the Imperfect Case; as is the corrupt politician or embezzling minister. All chasing the highest value without due consideration for the balance of negatives.
Theta is a one number display of momentum for any time (t). Value is thus geometrically calculated from Theta as a balance of positives minus negatives. Varying intensities of theta reflect the periods of positive value creation (success), and negative value creation (stagnation, or decadence) that regularly cycle through our lives. The One Number Theory provides the underlying logic for leveraging Theta to direction the allocation of resources in favor of the largest possible cumulative value.
